The Steinhardt namesake landed in America when John George Steinhardt immigrated from Munich, Germany, through Ellis Island in 1927.
Nearly 100 years later, his son, Jim, celebrates the tradition of old-world Bavarian and Belgian-style beer. Wife, and co-owner Daria, has her own history with German and Belgium beers passed on from her father, Harry Putnam, who came to appreciate them while the family was stationed near Nuremberg, Germany.
Our love affair with beer, and the frequent requests from friends and family for Jim's home brews, led to our decision to begin a small commercial brewing operation in our detached garage in Braddock Heights in 2014. A few years later, we opened our initial tasting room in the historic Union Mills Complex located in the heart of downtown Frederick along Carroll Creek. The success we experienced with our wide variety of brews led us to a further expansion in 2022. We now run the length of Wisner Street from Carroll Creek to Patrick Street. This expansion tripled our capacity and added a large, private Biergarten courtyard.
Our family is proud to share the finest quality beer with the Frederick community we’ve called home for over 30 years. Come in for a drink, and you will likely find Jim, Daria, their children, grandchildren, and pups (dogs are welcome!).
We look forward to seeing you soon and serving you our delicious brews in a beautiful and welcoming environment, served by our amazing and courteous staff.
